Here is a good hat from 5.11 that I wear.

It’s widely known that 5.11 Tactical Series® delivers functionally innovative gear from head to toe. So technically, that makes the Boonie Hat the “head,” while boots comprise the “toe.” This spring, 5.11 Tactical introduced a new color – coyote – to commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the 5.11 Tactical Pant. The color proved so popular, 5.11 also added a Boonie Hat, boots and socks in coyote. Popular with outdoor enthusiasts, the packable, traditionally styled Boonie Hat has a slightly ramped crown and a 2-1/4” brim. It’s constructed of the same 8.5-oz., 100% preshrunk cotton canvas as 5.11’s Tactical Pants for extra durability. The hat features vents on each side to help keep you cool, a lanyard for stability and easy attachment to bag or belt, and segmented webbing to easily affix camouflage. The Boonie now comes in three colors: coyote, TDU green and digital woodland, in sizes M, L and new XL. You’ll want at least one of each.

For some reason the model of Tilley hat I have has a wider brim than those pictured here, and I find that it is excellent for the really hot days outside. I used to get headaches out in the sun, wearing lesser hats, but not any longer.

You may have the T2... it's the widest brim they make and a really great hat.

    well

I am a big fan of OR. I think it was originally outdoor research. The seattle sombrerro is not only light and comfy in the sun, but it is waterproof! Great for the rain.

    oh

By the way, I have over 15 years experience in groundskeeping, so I know all about sun protection. and I am a ginger...

That seattle sombrerro has withstood tests unimaginable.

I had one of those in black until some S.O.B. stole from it from my car.

I wore it as a rain hat, but I'm sure the lighter colored one would do well for sun. One nice feature is the Velcro tabs on the crown so you can put the sides up - several hat styles in one.

    Best regards,

I have been wearing an australian kangaroo leather fold-up hat from Jacaru for a few years. It looks great with anything - I will definitely wear it with my kilt, too.
The great thing about it is, its quite indestructible - I usually just squish it into my messenger-bag and take it everywhere in case it rains or the sun gets to annoying When I take it out, it just springs back into form.
It is getting nicely faded now and looks just the right kind of washed out black
Completely water-proof and the broad black leather rim blocks the sun quite nicely.
