Dayton Daily news had it on their home page, comments so far have not been as stupid as what normally show up for their news comments.

Our local paper "Westdeutsche Zeitung" also had the story today!

I am beginning to wonder if more good than harm may come of this story...

It is raising kilt awareness, and it might spur more to wear their kilts to school over the next few weeks before summer starts.

Administrators are usually prime examples of the Peter Principle. I am amazed at the lack of general knowledge and foresight that admin types exhibit. It is sorta like when you take the job , you automatically turn off the part of the brain that deals with common sense.

Not true. It's only 20 years. If it was 200 years you'd expect to see a lot more Utes, Paiutes, and whatnot roaming around, and no white folks, kilted or not.

As my contribution to this thread, let me just say that the first kiltie I ever saw in real life was in an LDS church outside (but just outside) of the Salt Lake Valley. I don't recall what tartan he was wearing, but I seem to recall it being blue, and I have reason to suppose it was the Colquhoun. I'm not entirely sure if that was before or after I saw Gunga Din. (Gunga Din seems to have made a big impression on me. ith

I would like to send my kind wishes to the good people of Utah, never been to
the states before, but I would like to visit Utah and meet the honest hardworking friendly people of this state.
So kind wishes to all your families.

I agree. The problem with the other newspapers is they are not printing the ORIGINAL story. If it is anything close to the AP version, it is not very fair at all.

I have been a kiltmaker for 60 years and still kept very busy,I have made many kilts for high school grad who are proud to wear the kilt.I am glad this young man was man enough to to stick to his guns.I am proud of you.
I have made kilts for many well known people and have yet to meet anyone who is not proud to wear their kilt.God Bless

In case you didn't know --- Elsie Stuehmeyer is Barb's The Art of Kiltmaking co-author & kilt mentor.
If I remember, I'll bounce this off Elsie at her August kiltmaking seminar.

Another person commenting on the news article mentioned that she and the boy's mom took kiltmaking instruction in that Utah area. From whom do you suppose? Elsie does seminars in Utah annually or semi-annually. She has taught more people than anyone can imagine the art of kiltmaking.

And yet another commenter pasted in a quote from a Matt Newsome article.

A lot of what we see on this forum is taking place in the background. A highly visible faux pas such as this incident moves these things into the foreground for a few minutes of fame in the news cycle.
