I like my GB's and have never had the lace problem. But the shoes do look fine
to me, But I'm not to sure with the PC or Tux!

Being slip ons they just don't seem like something that is formal enough for a tuxedo or a Prince Charlie.
Regular dress shoes are fine with a PC, but they should be lace up dress shoes.

I agree with Jamie. Slip-ons just don't jive with a Prince Charlie to me. If you don't like or have problems with Ghillie Brogues, I think a nice Oxford or buckle brogues would be a better choice.
However, with an Argyll or a tweed those shoes would be great.

Traditional Point of View
In the 19th and early 20th century highland gentlemen quite often wore "pumps" with evening attire, so what it comes down to is an expression of personal style.
I wear black Gucci loafers quite often with black tie. Why? Because they are comfortable and I like them. Would I wear them with the kilt? Probably not, because I believe the kilt requires a slightly different degree of formality.
As Panache said, they would work well with a dress Argyll jacket, but are probably just a notch or two too informal for wear with a coatee or doublet (such as Jamie is wearing in the thread on ultimate sporrans). I think that if these had a smooth toe (rather than a moccasin toe) then they would work as a more formal shoe when worn with the kilt.

Maybe you're trying the tie the laces on your ghillie brogues too high. Most guys do.
As for alternatives, I'd skip the loafers and go with wingtips.

You beat me to it.
That... and sometimes you can wear thicker/woolier/popcorn or any other than slick kilt hose.

I wear a pair of military issue brogues and they have no fancy laces. Just regular laces like any other shoe. They also have metal toe and heel caps.

What about replacing those tassels with a pair of buckles? -

Instant dressy buckle brogues?

Exactly. They should go just below where the curve of the calf begins.
