For a less common tartan that sounds a pretty good deal to me.

Sorry just realised a typo, it's actually quoted at £180, I know it's not a huge difference but I don't wish to mislead anyone. It's still a good deal either way.

Ummm....have you thought of allowing your Scottish girlfriend to purchase the kilt for you? Some women love to buy their men clothes and you said she's pushing the idea of you having a kilt.
Don't know your personal situation other than what you said, just pointing out a possible option.
And, do spring for the best. And deal direct with a reputable kiltmaker rather than through a middleman. The Traditional Kiltmakers Guild website is still being upgraded but you can get information on guild members here.

I feel pushed to take the deal from bobilishious on ebay, after seeing his work here:
http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/b...t=bobilishious
The kilts seem to be of very nice quality and is priced at cost seeing as buying the American Heritage tartan will cost him just over £20/yd. He's even offered to include free flashes.
I know my partner will be reluctant to pay, but she has offered to give me £50 towards it. At £180 considering my budget of £400 for my entire outfit I can't be going that far wrong.

update
Just thought I'd give everyone my final choice:
I'm getting the 8yd 13Oz American Heritage kilt and I'm going to have it pleated to the first red stripe to the right of the white stripe. (like the original picture in my first post). It should cost me a total of £180 including matching flashes.
Over all it should be a pretty fine kilt when it's finished, I'll post another picture when I have it ordered and again when it arrives.
Thank you again for everyones help with my decisions.
