The prime minister will be there. That's good enough for me. I could care less if the queen mother got her personal invite or not.

HM the Queen Mother passed away in 2002 (may light perpetual shine upon her). Her daughter, HM Queen Elizabeth, is a veteran of WWII. Given her service, she should be there.

either way, I could care less if she's there. I don't hold any 'royalty' in any higher regard than anyone else.
Besides, I think I read a quote that she's welcome to come

As pointed out.... A Veteran reguardless of Royal status, should get an invite.. Unlike Brown who his parents were likely born during the war.

Thanks for sharing that with us in such a subtle way. Don't worry about anyone else's feelings on the matter just tell it as you see it my friend. Regardless of what WE may think about it now, some of those casualties at Normandy (and other theatres) went off and did what they did believing they were doing it for her Dad as well as the British Nation and the free world as a whole.

I don't supose all that matters much from your West Virginia view-point and you are perfectly entitled to your opinion but just so's you know... it does matter to a few for whom she is Queen.

Not to mention that her "mum & dad" stayed in London during the Blitz and "looked the East End in the face."

After 50 odd years on this earth i trust neither politicians nor the press. I do however have the greatset respect for the veterans of WW2 whom these celebrations are ment to honour and I think that many of them will feel agrieved that the Royal Family are not represented.

Of the two, the press is more trustworthy because, by law, the ads have to be honest.

Regardless of our individual feelings about royalty, politicians and nations I think Beldane has it right: this event is to honor the veterans of Normandy. Anything that tarnishes or politicizes the event is a great disservice to them.

Hmm. I think I'll go fishing or something. I won't get into the politics of this situation for obvious reasons, but it is a bit of policical correctness and lack of reason--I dont' even care who made the decision.

Political correctness always makes my joints ache! As well as various other parts of my anatomy.
