I did not say I was offended. I said I don't care if she is there or not.

If you do, good on you. It's your right.

But, doesn't your prime minister represent your family who fought and died as well? It is the PM that is the effectual head of government, no?

As a Canadian and as some one who has had family members who fought (one cousin lost his arm) during WWII, I am offended by the French slight! The Queen is the head of state and were it not for the sacrifices of the allied forces, Brit's, Canadians, Americans and others the French would in all likely-hood be speaking German right now! The Queen herself was a part of the war effort as a young Princess as was her sister. This is a slap in the face. Remember this is the same government that built the Maginot Line and then lost the one key for the lock on the doors.....Perhaps the next time they need the Commonwealth's assistance to save their bacon we can return the favor and decline the invitation!

    I tell you

The lack of Vulcan presence during WWII is a travesty and we should never forget how they left us hanging!

Now lets all have a beer, live long, and prosper.

Thank goodness that I didn't offend you through my ignorance.

No. A Prime Minister is head of government. Upon election the Queen invites him to form a government.

As for WVpiper's comment about the PM being there, he is NOT the head of state, nor is he the head of the Commonwealth! Would the American people be happy had Obama not been invited but George W. was? I doubt it, there would be all kinds of ugly about that.

Lets realize that this is a political faux pas and not the will of the French people. It's the polititians who knew better or is surrounded by those that know the protocals.

Grant has expressed it very well.

But while the Prime Minister may be the "effectual head of Government" wvpiper he is not The Head Of State. That is a vital difference when it comes to representation. Presidents Obama and Sarcosi are Heads of State and are not fielding substitutes.

But neither of them were alive during or served in the War and consequently they cannot truly represent the generation that experienced it. That means a lot to those who did and still remain.

Well thank you Grant I was becoming a little bit restless here.

Just for general info, not only ligne Maginot was not built under the same government (We, er... did have a few elections this last 100 years ) but it wasn't even the same REPUBLIC. ahhh !

Also, I am Happy to speak English, very proud to speak French and would love to know German.

This is my last post on this thread.
