ok to wear fire dept badge on kilt?

I have considered using a badge on the glen, as a kilt pin though a bit heavy, as a fly plaid pin, even on the sporran. I dont have a full plaid, figure even a fly would add a bit.

I know there's a few people on the forum who wear their badges as a kilt pin. Basically, we're not the ones you need permission from! Ask the dept. and see if they have any restrictions.

I'm not trying to be a 'salesman' but since I think this is exactly up the alley of what's being discussed, I figured I'd point it out... we have a Firefighter Cap Badge that would probably fit the bill:

If you do wear, which I think would be great BTW, you may want to do something to ensure it does not fall off, I use an elastic behind my kilt pins, just the other night at Scottish Country Dancing my dance partner lost her kilt pin somewhere in the grass, I then showed her how I secure mine, she thought it was great and said she would do the same with her other kilt pins.

You could check with your department's PR department and see if they have anything else that may work. Phoenix Fire had mini-badges that were key ring fobs. I'm planning to attach one to a regular sword kilt pin to wear with my Firefighter's Memorial tartan USA Kilts semi-trad.

Now wondering if that firefighter's cap badge is light enough to double as a kilt pin???

ALSO, to address those who worry about their kilt pin, no matter WHO the maker, falling off due to a weak / loose clasp, here's our advice to our customers:

TIP: If you don’t want to lose your kilt pin, try this… carefully poke the pin through the front apron of your kilt. With the pin sticking out the underside, stab the pin through a rubber band (usually a wide rubber band is easier). You can trim the rubber band so that you only use a little square. Then, poke the pin through the front apron again and close the clasp. If the clasp comes undone, the kilt pin will be held by the rubber band and won’t fall off.
