I went, once, and I walked out guilt ridden and embarrassed.

Brewboy, you may be in the process of becoming a curmudgeon, but, if so, you are a young curmudgeon. Based on your review, I think I prefer the staid authenticity of the Duke of Perth.

Their website says one's opening in DFW (Grapevine). Maybe it's already open. I'm thinking of checking it out once, but that'd probably be about it. While eye candy is nice, it doesn't do all that much for me. Even if the food's good, I can get good Irish fare at the Trinity, which is only 2 or 3 miles from my apartment. And I really just can't take my fiancée there, and again too far to make a good "boys' night out". In any case

I'm open to it. I think having kilt in its name might make it a venue that promotes the hiring of bagpipers.

Thumbs up bit of a ramble...

Not sure how their franchising works, or what corporate is up to, but as they open more each seems to be somehow different in some way from the others....at least they're promoting the kilt.

I've only been in two TK's, and they were quite different. I think that adapting to the area and customers is a good idea, unlike a lot of chain resturants that are the same anywhere in the country. The Kilt in Round Rock TX is in a strip mall and seemed to me just like a Hooters, albeit with better food and beer. The one here in Houston is in the middle of a bunch of chain resturants like Logans and Chili's, after the new wore off it was evolving into a sports bar, but lately they seem to be coming back around to a more general "local bar and grill" feel. The food is good, staff friendly, and kilted guys are always welcomed and fawned over. I'm kind of a regular, and I think I have been comped a drink or given free junk on at least half my visits. The have hosted several events for local Celtic groups, and even participated in our Highland games this year.

The "Look! Our waitresses are hot!" gimmick is great to get you in the door, look how long Hooters has been at it, but the quality of the food, drinks and fast friendly service is what brings folks back. In that area I at least am pleased with our local Tilted Kilt. Lets face it, it's surrounded by plenty of other "reasonably priced dining" places, but since I'm not troubled (as aparantly some are) by having my grub brought over by a pretty girl in a mini-skirt, I'll generally choose the Kilt over Chili's!

Just to be clear, please do not get the idea that dining the Kilt is any kind of "traditional 'Celtic' experience"! We have a few places in town that do that well though, nor does it have the best pub food in Houston, that would be Brian O'Neil's.
