My Weekend at the Bellingham Games 1

We had planned to attend the games as a "kilt night" with some of the Seattle rabble. Alas, it did not come to pass so I'll just have to try again in the future. But it was a great weekend.

The CAWFH and I arrived in Bellingham on Friday. We toured around the old part of town, did some antiquing and generally enjoyed the day. Come dinner time, we opted to try a barbecue place that Shelly had spotted, Speak EZs.

A nice, simple decor and soft blues playing in the background. There were some great photos of bluesmen on the walls.

We thought the sampler plate was a good choice, 4 huge ribs, a quarter chicken, about a half pound of pulled pork and the same of brisket.

    This food was DEELISH!!

When the chef heard about a guy in a kilt, he had to come out and see for himself. Big D meets Big Mikey.

After dinner it was back to the hotel for cocktails and prepping for the games on Saturday.

The weather was quite comfortable on Saturday, a little overcast but very comfortable. With so much to see and do here is a small sample.

    The WWU Scottish Dance Club.

This old timer was a real character. The Anderson tent was fantastic with a large assortment of nasty looking weapons. Shelly's heritage is Anderson.

It hasn't been a good day if Shelly doesn't get a new hat!

The big boys are awaiting their turns.

Could it be a true highland gathering without a refreshment area? The Blue Ewe Public House.

And finally, the main house at the Hovander homestead.

It was a great time and I'm sorry about not being able to meet the Seattle boys but rest assured, you are not off the hook yet. Cheers.

Thanks for the pictures, Mikey. It looks like you two had a good weekend. I've really enjoyed the Bellingham games in the past (or "Bellyham", as my kids used to call it when they were little).

Have to agree Mikey.... Posting that picture of the Bar-b-que is considered torture in 29 countries around the world.... (now where are my car keys??)

We missed you Mikey. I met up with a couple of the rabble after competing on Saturday. In the photo of the big boys, That is me in the Bright Gold Hose! I appologize to those I met, as I can't remember their names. It just means I need to make the drive to meet up with everyone more often!

I didn't make it, like Kyle. Things just didn't work out. Sounds like I have another BBQ joint to hit up when I'm north of here.

With respect to visiting with the Seattle folk, next month, head on down...

    Great pics, btw.
