Practikilt

I have 2 Practikilts (1) Avenger--black, (2) Islander--khaki in size medium (36-38). Both were ordered from Museum Replicas nearly 4 years ago. When they arrived I tried them on and because of the size spread they did not fit at all. I took them to a local tailor and had them taken in, now they fit just fine. They're not bad for a Utilikilt knock-off. If you're looking for a canvas kilt, but can't afford a Utilikilt, Freedom Kilt, Union Kilt, etc then the Practikilt is a good choice or make your own which you can definately do for a lot less money. When I get the chance, I will post pictures including the always required pleat shot.

I have no experience with a needle and thread outside of emergency repairs that don't need to look pretty; do you think I'd just be better off with a Practikilt, or would that need some expertise to be properly modified?

Museum Replicas seems to be pretty limited on sizes for everything but the Camo designs; they may not have what you want anyway.

To bad. I'm at the top of my weight range and don't fit a lot of my kilts right now; at $49, I'd have given the large Badland and the Outlaw a try as something to wear while I "reduce."

The PractiKilt website has no contact information. I tried calling MuseumReplicas for contact information, but the guy said he couldn't give it to me. I think I'll call back later with a list of questions; if you guys have any, post them and I'll add them to the list. Also, if anyone has contact information, please post it so I can talk to them directly.

Practikilts are basically a canvas version of what Museum Replicas euphemistically calls an "early kilt"

They are marketed to the Renfaire and LARP folks, I've only ever seen them at faires, and the 'tartan' ones look pretty sad.

I do... I have several healed puncture wounds as proof. I don't think the nervous system of my hands can take any more. So if those were still for sale, I might be tempted.

Since I take advice badly from people whose true name I don't know, I decided to place an order for two Practikilts from the 49 $ price. They, unlike UK's, were easy to order on line, arrived in just a few days and even passed the approval of my wife.
The only problem was I prefer sewed pleat edges, which I did myself taking about an hour per kilt.
They are both camo kilts and look quite nice and, in construction as well as design, are far superior to the Amerikilt I own and never wear.
They are made in India.
No, I do not have pictures.

I think Windlass Steelcrafts, who seems to be Museum Replicas Limited's main manufacturer, also operates out of India.

Windlass Steelcrafts does operate out of India. Also, Practikilts are listed under Windlass Costumes, starting on page 8 (some of the shirts come earlier; it's an alphabetical listing). It seems that Practikilt belongs to Windlass Costumes, though perhaps, at one time, it was independent.
