Radford Highlanders Festival 2009- tell me all about it

I discovered the Radford (VA) Highlanders Festival today and was wondering what all you could tell me about it. I just perused their site and in 2008 there were 6 clans represented, and so far for this year's event there are about 15 thousand vendors listed. (Okay, maybe I'm exaggerating, but there's a heap o' names on that list.)
How big an event is this festival? It's not as big as Grandfather, of course, but about how many people attend? How many athletes compete? Is it worth the 3 hour drive?

Hi. My name is Bonnie Roberts Erickson and I am a writer in the Office of University Relations at Radford University. I also cover the news beat for the Radford Highlanders Festival and serve as the vendor coordinator.

Our festival attracts approximately 10,000 - 11,000 people each year. This year will be our 14th. The date is October 3.

We have had as many as 22 clans before but it usually ranges from 8 to 12. We have approximately eight food vendors and generally 30 - 35 craft vendors.
