I've never tried them but they do make strap extensions - just leather with a buckle

What a cool find! Forgive me if I'm wrong but because you were talking about skirts for school, I'm assuming you're female. If that's the case, us ladies have so many more length options, you don't really need to get it hemmed.

Good luck with the move. I hope you like it here.

I wore a skirt because I doubted and still doubt that there are many people here who know the difference between a mans' kilt and a females' kilt.

    Thanks for the link, Beedee.

I think I will leave it as it is. But I will talk to a kiltmaker. I was thinking of getting one of the Stillwater 'standard' kilts. $80 US plus shipping. $150 NZ all up, maybe. I don't think I would get enough wear out of it to justify the cost.

A bit of an off-topic rant, but I've been put off wearing kilts by the fear that people will think I'm an attention seeker. I think I'd rather blend in. So I'll hire a good kilt for special occasions.

    Thanks,
    Quentin.

I'd bet you could find a saddle shop to make you some if you can't find any

No, I'm a guy. I couldn't afford a mans' kilt for my school formal, so I got a school kilt in McKenzie tartan and had it shortened.
