    Interesting study...

A circa 1905 Gordon. Photo taken in India. Wearing a regimental kilt and five-bar QSA medal (for Boer War service in South Africa/Transvaal). Of particular interest is the length of the kilt (above knee) and the placement of the kilt pin (quite 'high').

The length of the kilt looks to me where it should be. You might be interested in this thread on the higher placement of the kilt pin.

The sporran has an over-all length of approximately 18 inches (the Jock probably stands about 5'7" in his socks). The kilt is an inch or so above the knee, and the hose tops are about "four fingers" below the knee-- just about the perfect length for both kilt and hose. Kilt pin placement is also pretty much spot on-- even for civilians.

I'd have to completely agree with MacMillian of Rathdown on this, though I must admit most of the time my kilt pins are lower than shown here this is correct as well. Thank you for the wonderful photo, would you mind adding it to the Vintage Kilt thread?
