Just to clarify, Marines don't have any personal ill feelings toward pockets themselves, it's just unsightly to put your hands in them while in uniform; and, therefore is not allowed. It's not a behavior becoming the high standards of Marines. However, while in civilian clothes, you can have and use as many pockets as you'd like, even if it's just a place to rest your hands. ;)
When I was in boot camp, if you got caught with your hands in your pockets, you'd have to go put your hands in other recruits pockets and walk around like that. It discouraged me for sure.
