Don't have a Wal-Mart near me (Chicago is a union town and many folks have been fighting to keep Wal-Mart out). I do go to Sam's Club occasionally and have never had anyone bat an eyelash at my kilt.

Walmart, Target, Costco, and Dick's Sporting Goods, in addition to the local supermarket chain, all kilted at various times and dates. Yup, lots of double takes, a few folks artfully directing their carts around to get a second or third look, so far no negative comments or sniggers. Several people either commenting on the beauty of the tartan, the fact that they have seen other kilted folks in various places before, and the ever present question about what the special occasion is. Oh, and only once, the "do you pipe" question. I replied " no ma'am, I don't smoke a pipe, cigars or cigarettes", which needless to say left her speechless and dumbfounded while I walked away smiling. Kilting out in public where the public is not used to or expecting to see a kilted man is fun but can be quite an interesting experience, as can be found in the many stories read here.

I had something similar happen in a restaurant the other day. At the end of the meal the hostess sat down with my wife and I and said she loved the kilt, MacLaren from Stillwater, and the kitchen boys wanted to know where I got it, as it was "SICK". I gave them 4 or 5 people to talk to. My wife asked me if I was happy now that people paid attention to me

    ( I WAS happy!)

It's great most folk look up to the kilt. (no pun indended)
I have not seen any Wal Mart stores in Scotland but we have lots of Gold Brothers stores and by God they sell everything. They even supplied the Stone of Destiny when it was returned to Scotland.

Glad to see McClef back, how was the vacation.
Good to finally make your aquaintance, as well. I've read a few of your posts, but not had the chance to say hello.

So to answer some of the statements here... Colorado Wal Marts are what my friends and I tend to refer to as "ignormagnets." I seldom go to them because I seldom have good experiences there- kilted or no.

It's generally against my principals as well... but the Mrs was tired from the weekend, and a tired, cranky Mrs is not someone with whom to argue.

It was great thanks and pictures will be forthcoming in due course.
I am ashamed to say- I didn't realize you had gone! Welcome back, brother! I look forward to seeing the pictures!

Hello Nighthawlk, great post. Don't know much about Wal Mart.
But I do like style. And I like the style of Galloping Foxley, great shirts and nice hair style. And I like people with good manners. All the best, Paul
