Maybe some of the more experienced members will have better suggestions, but I can recommend Robert Mackie of Scotland. www.robertmackie.com
Like you I was a bit put off by the red toorie. While they don't have a web store I dropped them an email and they gladly made a balmoral to my requirements; undiced, black toorie, tied bow. Of course they have Glengarrys as well.
Their bonnets are made to MoD requirements; I think they are a military supplier but I'm not sure. I won't pretend to be an expert, but I was very please with the quality of mine.
It was made and shipped out in one day for a total cost of 26.18 GBP including shipping; that's $43 at today's rate. I believe I bought mine about 1 1/2 years ago, so prices could have changed.
Customer service was excellent.
