Is Music not enough? (rant)

I have decided that Lady GaGa is a contemporary Divine Miss M. Bette Middler began her career as a bit of burlesque act, working the clubs (and bathhouses, actually) with unparalleled energy. Though I don't care a whit for the Lady GaGa's music, I noticed that she does have talent beneath all that schtick, to say nothing of the ambition of Madonna.

Whether she goes as far as either of them remains to be seen.

Is it just me though, or do the Pop stars of today lack the substance of those of the previous three decades. It's all about who looks good on camera, who will do what they are told by the marketing gurus, and if they can't sing, why they will computerize it or make it so noisy it really doesn't matter
