San Diego Highland Games and Kilt Night 2009

Just back from a long Saturday and a short Sunday visit to the San Diego Highland Games in Vista, CA. We had the pleasure of meeting up with both old and new friends, two lovely days at the Games, and a very fun Saturday kilt night topped off by an impromptu pipe and drum concert! On to the visual proof. . .

1OldSarge, Bob, and SkyePilot met up early Saturday morning

The final total for Saturday night's rabble, outside of Hennessey's in old downtown Vista: Jay (James MacMillan), Bob (bigdad1), Ken (Coinneach), David (Galician), one of the pipers whose name I neglected to get, and Bruce (FlagFolder).

The pipe band assembled and approaching the restaurant.

Band marching in to the establishment. Evidently they were there for dinner and the restaurant owner just asked them to tune up and play a few!

It was loud inside there!

One band had the cutest little fellow for drum major, and he was very serious about doing a great job!

I have more (each of the clans in the parade, for example) but I'll let others chime in for now.

Sydnie, Great to see you and Bob again. I've yet to look at my pictures yet. Will have to get to that soon. I believe the young piper's name is Bryant. I believe he said he was new to the band and didn't know all their tunes that well yet, so he stepped outside to have a listen with us.

Truly a fun time and great to see old friends and to make new. A very convivial atmosphere and a good time had by all. The games were great. A bit warmish today but lots of fun.

Sydnie did a great job of juggling all the cameras at the pub that night. Her pics of the games were more interesting than any I had, too. Good work, Sydnie!

Thanks, Ken! The camera juggling is always fun but I start jonesing for a better digicam than I have. . . must resist. . . LOL

There was a tent with these beautiful raptors, didn't see anything in the program about flight demos -- some are rescue birds, others were hatched in captivity. I think the first two are a peregrine falcon and a Harris hawk but memory may not be serving this morning

Who was that clown? He was working the Child ID tent (a Masonic service, IIRC) but not sure this fellow qualifies

That's about it for my pics other than the balance of the clan parade which are available on request. Did more knitting than picture-taking this time!
