There are places in England where you might be called 'cock' as a simple acknowledgement that you are a person of the male persuasion.
If you think about it, the cockerel, being a bird and evolved to have no unnecessary weight, anywhere, is totally streamlined.
There is also such a thing as noticing too much - I used to live near a place called Scunthorpe and never thought anything of it until I found that porn picking up software means that it has to change a vowel in order to be let through the system.
