Guest at a wedding
hey guys
I am attending a wedding at the weekend where most if not all of the guests (male) will be wearing suits. However, I am going to be wearing my kilt, the only jacket I have is the prince charlie and vest. My question is wether this will be to formal for a wedding thus is there any way of making this look less formal. i.e can i wear a tie, normal shoes???
Cheers

Where is the wedding? US, UK??? In the US, it's a safe bet very few people will know the customs of wearing kilt. If it's in the UK, you probably shouldn't wear a Prince Charlie unless it's an evening wedding. Before 5, you should wear an Argyll or equivalent.

cheers,
its in the uk, the wedding is about 2pm and we r going straight from there to the reception which is a fairly formal evening do. its a tough one, thats why I was wondering if there was a way of making the charlie a bit less formal.

That really is a tough one, I'd say I would not dress down a Prince Charlie, but Sean Connery does it. I might see about renting an Argyll or some such jacket and waistcoat.

I am sorry to say this but....... wear a suit. With your kilt outfit you will be over dressed with your PC(you would not wear a dinner suit(tux) to a 2 o'clock wedding,I hope) and as the wedding is in the UK there is a reasonable chance that there will be a guest that knows a bit about highland attire. Can you hire, beg, borrow or steal an Argyll jacket?

cheers guys I am goin along the lines of borrowing or hiring an argyle jacket. I think thats the best option, i really dont wanna wear just a suit. is it still ok to wear the brogues with the argyle?

I like the look of ghillie brogues, so I tend to wear them any chance I get. If it were me I'd wear them. I think some (especially the older and more British crowd) would wear buckle brogues.

Brogues? Absolutely! Well polished of course. There is no need for you to rush out and buy those awful ghillie things, or buckles for that matter.

Brogues are fine, I must say I'm glad you have decided to go for an Argyll jacket.

I'm not sure of the UK view of ghillie brogues with day wear, but I agree. Mine are very comfortable and I like the look. I'm always looking for new excuses to wear them.
