I wouldn't carry a lot of US$. Pubs etc. won't accept them and banks are open 9-5. Carry a Visa/Mastercard which you can use in the ATM's which are everywhere and check with the card issuer beforehand that it can be used abroad.
Hmmm, nows that you mention it I do believe you are correct about the Airth. I did a google and saw one almost in down town Edinburgh and thought that was the one. I guess I have to regroup and do a bedtter area search

I know! It's a definite that I'll be kilted - I'll either hire a proper kilt or just wear my Freedom casual. I'd feel a little embarassed in a "fake kilt" though!

I suppose it being a massive clan gathering, most will be in traditional tartan but at least you are going to be kilted, perhaps to save you money you could borrow a kilt for the weekend, what size to do you take

My kilt size is about a 36. 35 at minimum (sometimes difficult to sit down with though!) and 37 at maximum
I was planning to get the Auld Lang Syne tartan from another maker. I think the guy might be able to get it done within 15 days or so aslong as he's not got too much on his plate... I hope so atleast. I'll need to dig back into my overdraft though!

The Gathering Kilt Nights & Meet Up
Okay, Guys and gals the time is pressing and we need to make some decisions for us to meet up.
Here are my suggestions:
Friday, 7/24 @ 7 PM a Phil favorite!
The Bow Bar
80, West Bow,Victoria St
EH1 2HH 0131 226 7667
A successfully revamped old style Edinburgh pub renowned for great variety of real ale and guest beers and a good selection of malts. Friendly local pub with no frills or themes. Sometimes frequented by City councillors and the occasional community education worker but still a great place. Only a 10 pace stagger from a brilliant cheese shop and a historically significant brush shop.
Saturday, 7/25 @ 7 PM [TO BE CHANGED CONFLICTS WITH PAGENT]
Brecks
110-114, Rose St
EH2 3JF 0131 225 3297
Nice central island bar with imaginative bar meals and snacks. Pictures of RL Stevenson (Alan Breck, Kidnapped) and a cosy room off. Lively at weekends but still a good place for a chat. Some cask ale, range of whiskies and wines. Was the Goblet which was one of the 'in' places of the 60's/70's set. Its two bars were knocked into one.
Sunday, 7/26 Holyrood Park at the Main Stage@ 4:30 PM
MAIN STAGE -Entertainers Schedule
11.00 - 12.00 Red Hot Chilli Pipers
12.30 - 13.30 Dougie McLean
14.00 - 15.00 Capercaillie
15.30 - 16.30 Battlefield Band
Chime in if you would like to make a suggestion.

*bites nails*
apparently my kiltmaker has 4 days before she goes away on holiday and she's just finishing up a job. I'm doing my best to ensure that mines the next one... which would mean it would be ready in plently of time and would save me buying a completely new kilt for the weekend from another kiltmaker!

This could be a problem for those participating in the parade and attending the pageant.
I'm not attending the pageant, but the wife and I plan to watch the clans march.
