Here are my suggestions:
Friday, 7/24 @ 7 PM a Phil favorite!
The Bow Bar
80, West Bow,Victoria St
EH1 2HH 0131 226 7667
A successfully revamped old style Edinburgh pub renowned for great variety of real ale and guest beers and a good selection of malts. Friendly local pub with no frills or themes. Sometimes frequented by City councillors and the occasional community education worker but still a great place. Only a 10 pace stagger from a brilliant cheese shop and a historically significant brush shop.
Saturday, 7/25 @ 7 PM
Brecks
110-114, Rose St
EH2 3JF 0131 225 3297
Nice central island bar with imaginative bar meals and snacks. Pictures of RL Stevenson (Alan Breck, Kidnapped) and a cosy room off. Lively at weekends but still a good place for a chat. Some cask ale, range of whiskies and wines. Was the Goblet which was one of the 'in' places of the 60's/70's set. Its two bars were knocked into one.
Sunday, 7/26 Holyrood Park at the Main Stage@ 4:30 PM
MAIN STAGE -Entertainers Schedule
11.00 - 12.00 Red Hot Chilli Pipers
12.30 - 13.30 Dougie McLean
14.00 - 15.00 Capercaillie
15.30 - 16.30 Battlefield Band
Chime in if you would like to make a suggestion.
You know more about Edinburgh than me and I only stay 30 odd miles away, typical Scot I know more about Ireland, Europe and the Canary islands than my own country!

I'm not attending the pageant, but the wife and I plan to watch the clans march.
No, Bill that is a problem. Thanks for the observation. We could met after the pagent but that will be late. What time do the pubs close? We could do a meet up at Holyrood Park or meet somewhere for lunch? How about a meet up at the TALISKER® TASTE EXPERIENCE tent at 2 PM for Saturday?

The Friday and Saturday are both out for me as I will be working at the air museum at Carlisle. I will try to arrange things so that I can stay till 4:30pm and beyond on the Sunday to meet up at the stage.
If some of you are at your clan tents on the Sunday I may be able to visit you there.

EXCELLENT!
I'm thinking that it might be better if we meet somewhere at the Gathering (in Holyrood Park) on both Saturday and Sunday.
This will allow those who are staying too distant from Edinburgh for evening gatherings, have other plans (with their clans, etc), or are only attending for a day, to meet up with the Rabble.

I believe that is typical for most. Many of us don't know our own neighborhood as well as we might, but we'll know all about more distant places.
I live just outside of Washington, DC and work inside the city limits, but I don't go into the city but perhaps once or twice a year. Thus, I don't know my way around, where the good restaurants or watering holes are, or even much about many of the popular tourist attractions.

Alex,
We'll wave to you as we pass by Carlisle on Friday on our way to see Hadrian's Wall.
Still looking forward to seeing you on Thursday though.

Visitors should be warned about Edinburgh at present. A new tramway infrastructure is being put in place at present in Edinburgh. The line when completed hopefully next year will join the airport to Leith.
Unfortunately, Edinburgh's finest street is in a bit of an uproar at present with the tram lines being laid. So be prepared for a bit of disruption when you visit our capital city

Well I suppose that I had not intended to go to the "homecoming" thing, but I was hoping to to bump into one or two of you when you ventured further North. Sadly that is not to be, so may I wish you all welcome to Scotland and HAVE FUN!
