    Question

Question for those that attend Grandfather Mountain, Obviously it was a bit damp this year, but what is the average weather and temps like at that event?

Appears to have been very typical summer weather in the mountains of western North Carolina. (Eastern escarpment of the Blue Ridge Mountains). Temps in the upper 60's lower 70's (F). Mists like this are typical for those altitudes. I've seen mist literally rolling over the top of Clingman's Dome (the third highest point in the Appalachian Mountains).

    Great photos Rex!

I was impressed with the auctioneer's ability to turn even the lamest items up for auction into a treasure.

By the way, that is where I met Drillagent, and I think he's in the background of the second auction photo. What a firm handshake!

I am considering next year for sure. I will have learned a few lessons this time around, so I would be better prepared if I did.

    Regards,
    Rex.

I'm happy to share the space with you, Matt. It was nice seeing you again.

On the far left is Dr. Phil Smith, author of the popular Tartan for Me! reference, as well as other works on tartan.
Didn't you tell me that the MacCreary tartan I have was designed by Phil Smith? I did wear it on Saturday as promised. Several people asked me about it on my walkabouts.

To the right is Brian Wilton, director of the Scottish Tartans Authority, who was one of the dinstinguished guests of the Games this year.
Oh, what a shame I missed him. He recently reviewed a tartan design I have been working on and would have enjoyed showing him my revisions.
With him is Henry Scott, of Clan Scott (and also Purple Heather Pottery, which we carry in our gift shop for those who have seen it). Henry was serving as Brian's "bodyguard" for the weekend.
Why did he need a bodyguard?

    Best regards,
    Rex.

Yes, Phil Smith did design the MacCreary tartan. I believe he had a sample of it at his tent, as a matter of fact. I saw you in your MacGillivray on Friday and should have guessed you would also have your MacCreary with you.

Brian's "bodyguard" was mostly charged with making sure he was in the right place at the right time, I believe. :-)

That's neat that the person who designed your tartan, Rex, was there at the same games as you.
