A leather strap is narrower than a belt.

Two views of my new badger sporran from Thorfinn one has the leather flap and the other the badger flap

    Ferguson Britt Canadian beaver

Thorfinn black day sporran with plain leather flap and Black Watch flap. This is the one I wear most often.

I also have a Thorfinn in Acorn leather with a plain flap (full disclosure - Turpin is my brother)

    Leather strap instead of chain

A leather strap is much kinder to your kilt than a chain (particularly the thin and often sharp dog's chains that come with some sporrans)> I just got the belt a little longer (around 4 inches) than my waist belt and it hangs just right. You can put a sporran on hangers from your main belt but I have never done that as often I don't wear a main belt when I am wearing a waistcoat.

As to how it looks well I'm sure its a matter of taste but I like it and I prefer it to the chain.

Another option is sporran hangers. I use them almost exclusively.

Does anybody have one of these from Oh Sussanah's Leather?:

    I'm curious about the quality...
The spirit of the Declaration of Arbroath (6 April 1320) abides today, defiantly resisting any tyranny that would disarm, disperse and despoil proud people of just morals, determined to keep the means of protecting their families and way of life close at hand.

This is my daywear sporran and I really, really love it. I personally like very simple and unfussy sporrans which is why my formal wear sporran has a completely plain cantle. Which is why I love this design - simple, elegant, contempory with a traditional air

It's from a company called Sporran Nation based in Inverness and the girl that makes them couldn't be nicer!
