Its is a Gathering of the Clans.. so one should wear his clan tartan... and since Jock is living in the Highlands, where the traditions of wearing the kilt, is alive and well, where it is considered in poor taste to wear a tartan , other than ones paternal lineage, He would just encourage this young man to wear his Paternal family tartan.

My Campbell blood says to go with the clan tartan, my MacDonald blood says to go with the Auld Lang Syne (or MacDonald Dress!), and my Gibson blood chastises you for not having started off with a Buchanan kilt.

(Of course, I'm not terribly fond of the regular Buchanan tartan, but I do think the "Old Buchanan" [MacGregor-Hastie variant] tartan is quite handsome, especially in weathered or muted colors.)

I guess that means my vote is split, but, like Jock Scot said, it is a clan gathering, so I would go with the clan tartan kilt you have. Unless, for some reason, you object to associating with (or being associated with) the Campbells.

    Correct! Thank you Rex.

    Yes!
That's the company... in Maryhill. I'm glad you cleared that up, thanks.

That's very good irony. As poor as I am - MacDonald dress and Buchanan ancient are both next on my list!

Just a wee update - Im planning to wear green shiny Nike Dunks pictured bellow with my Campbell Ancient.
I realize this is extremely untraditional but as a spontanious 18 year-old I think they match well and give my own twist to the outfit ;)
Got my new thistle Art Pewter kilt pin and sporran too... they look good and the sporran matches my saltire belt well. Now I've just to decide on a t-shirt...
