We were dragged out of bed at 4:30 this morning. For some reason, Jamie always has to leave at the crack of dawn whenever we drive anywhere.
So I made him take the first shift. I must say, by 9:30 we had driven quite a distance-nearly to Mount Shasta.
Here's our fearless driver (note the athletic socks and comfortable shoes. Even our Panache bows to the neccesity of comfort, though he did change to hiking boots and scrunched down the socks later).

We stopped at a rest area on the shores of Lake Shasta (I believe), and we (meaning Jamie) were lucky enough to score a new bird (a Western Tanager)!

Just for the record, trying to identify a hawk through binoculars, while driving at 80 miles an hour (being driven, actually) is not a good idea. First of all, it doesn't work. Second, it leads to car sickness.
But, it is possible to get nice photos of mountains while driving.
Mount Shasta:

And another mountain (I haven't looked up which one yet):

We got a very good omen at lunch time (I'm sorry to say, the time frame does not extend to our arrival in Canada, but at least we know the Brew Fest will be good! ):

And, just for the edification of our members...Jamie is smaller than a mountain, although I'm not sure that can be said for his ego!

That's all for now-time to feed the children.
Be well,
Star
