I think bemused is the word ...

So a lady I work with, who has asked others here questions when I wear a kilt to the office (which is once or twice a week), finally said something to me today. (I'm kilted today.) I had gotten a cup of coffee and was on my way back to my office, past her desk, and she said, "Are you in a band?"

    "No," I replied.

"Oh, so ... do you play the bagpipes?"

    "No."

"Oh ... so ... you ... just have that outfit?"

    "Yes."

The look on her face at that point was priceless. I believe you can find it in the dictionary under "bemused."

Yes, I've seen that look before... and grateful my telepathic powers weren't operational

Jeans, tennis shoes, t-shirt or suit and tie, she'd never have spoken.

Kilts - ya gotta love 'em....

She's thinking, "This guy is different, and brave, and interesting..."

I was in a coffee shop yesterday and one of the girls said, "cool kilt, what's the occaison, do you play in a band?" "No", replies I, "it's a Wednesday". Same priceless look. She did recover well by adding that the kilt really suited me, so I sipped my coffee in bliss.

    .

Well you know, I've come to the conclusion that a kilted man that doesn't turn casual observers into bemused observers is like that tree that falls in the forest philosophical riddle.

If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?

If a kilted man doesn't encounter bemused looks, is he kilted?
