    Sir William Visits Hawick

Sir William and his wife were taking part in the Elliot Clan Gathering at nearby Newcastleton and stayed a few nights in a guest house here in Hawick. I was able to meet up with them for a few hours.

We went for a hike along the riverside walk beside the River Teviot, which forms part of the Four Abbeys Way linking the ancient abbeys of Dryburgh, Jedburgh, Kelso and Melrose.

We walked as far as Hornshole where we visited the memorial at the site of the Battle of Hornshole in 1514. The Teviotdale tartan weaves the distinctive Elliot blue and chocolate colours with the green and white of Hawick Rugby Club and the darker blue and yellow of the Hexham Standard which the lads of Hawick captured near this spot in 1514.

Later Sir William came up to my house where he is seen beside part of my kilt collection.
