    *grrrrr at the Keith***
    lol

Clan Gunn here... I am a Wilson which is a sept of Gunn. The origin of the name Gunn is Norwegian. The word "Gunni" in the Old Norwegian language means "War" or "Battle".
For those unfamiliar about Clan Gunn and Clan Keith...these 2 clans feuded for a LONG time (over 500 years) and it wasn't until 1978 that a treaty was finally signed.
I think it is admirable and honorable for Tartanraven to get a kilt in the Gunn Ancient tartan.
This act of kinship has given me an idea for my next kilt and I will be purchasing a Keith tartan to also commemorate the treaty between the clans.
Thanks Tartanraven! If you would like...I'll send you pictures of my Gunn Modern..it's a bit brighter than the ancient.

My Tartans: Campbell and Stuart. (There is a possibility that there is a MacGregor link through my great, great grandmother). However, I don't have a kilt in any of those tartans...yet.

As for my favourite tartan...that's hard...I have always had a love for both the MacGregor and Douglas Modern Tartans.

As a Lovat Fraser, it would seem strange not to own a Hunting Fraser kilt, as opposed to a Red Dress Fraser one which is more associated with the Saltoun branch - see the drapes in the separate Lovat and Saltoun tents at The Gathering last Saturday for confirmation.

My dear ol' mum has a dress Fraser skirt which suits her, but I just think 'shortbread tins' when I see it on a bloke. My wife has a weathered/muted dress Fraser which suits her colouring as an Asian, she says, and I'm inclined to agree!

So, there's history, preference and many other things to consider as we all know.

All I know, is that I'm as proud as punch when I wear my kilt, whether it's on the hills or swishing down The Mile!

Ya know ol' Rob Roy himself took Campbell as an alias. Which of course was probably quite naturally considering his wife was a Campbell...

Anyhow, what tartan should I wear? Hmmm...my grandmother was a Cooper...my father's side was supposedly from the Isle of Arran/Kintyre area...my mother's side was from County Cavan...my last name is Cook...we're from West Virginia...so I guess:
    Arran
    MacDonald of the Isles
    Cavan
    Cooper
    Cook
    West Virginia

But my favourite tartans are ones like these:

His wife was Helen Macgregor (maiden name); it was his mother who was the Campbell.

I am a Haxton so my tartan is Keith. I have a newsome in ancient Keith and I just finished making a box pleat in modern Keith.
