On a Dutch golf forum it was my own wife who challenged me to wear a kilt. It was more a joke, but she knew I loved kilts and she wasn't surprised when I ordered a kilt instantly.
I don't think she realised I started to wear kilts (more kilts followed pretty soon) quite often, but again...she wasn't amazed about it either.
When we attended an official dinner from her work...I didn't want to push buttons and suggested to wear a "normal" suit, but my wife urged me to wear a kilt ("When they don't like it...tough luck")
My mother loves it...I don't have to dare to show up wearing pants!
My inlaws probably think I'm just weird, but they accept it. At first they were really uncomfortable with it I think, but positive comments from others made them feel less uneasy about it.
I'm not full time kilted and I still choose to wear pants when I think a kilt might make feel others uncomfortable.
