    I like that idea.

I think I might start doing that...

Ron my dear chap, you have gone and done it now!Twenty, no fifty pages on this thread, not one person will agree with another, even the traditionalists will not sing from the same song sheet, the modernists will have a lengthy and heated theoretical discussion on what a sporran strap buckle is---- and not agree, the mods' blood pressure will be off the chart, poor old "Hank" will go into terminal decline, this thread will be closed and re-opened half a dozen times and war will be declared between Europe and the other side of the Atlantic. I can see it now " white hose, flat caps, and NOW sporran strap buckles" could easily cause Internet meltdown and any one who has been on this website for more than a week and knows the form, will go pale instantly whilst diving for the nearest fall out shelter. Gosh, our only slim hope of avoiding universal catastrophe is that the kilt police can sort this potential world shattering question out, at their soonest possible convenience!

    Crack me up Jock...!

You left out someone recommending that sporrans straps be cut to size for each individual so there is no buckle....

Oh! Silly me! How could I forget this major talking point? Right, add on another 5 pages of inconclusive and heated discussion.

How to make a reversible, almost infinitely adjustable, buckle-free, sporran strap.

    Items required for the project:

    1) A brown felt-tip marking pen (it must be indelible).
    2) A black felt-tip marking pen, also indelible.
    3) A seam ripper.
    4) A scissors.
    5) Two stout rubber bands, of the kind that come wrapped around your morning paper.
    6) One (or more) pair of (new) men's tartan boxer shorts two sizes larger than would normally be worn with trousers.

    Directions:

    1) Using the scissors carefully cut the elastic waist band from the tartan boxer shorts and set it to one side.

    2) Carefully refold the tartan boxer shorts and place them back in the package they came in so that they may be returned to the place of purchase for refund due to obvious defect in manufacturing.

    3) Using the seam ripper carefully pick out the stitching holding the elastic waistband to the remnants of the tartan boxer shorts. When finished set the remnant aside. (This should be saved for later use in making flashes for wear with white hose.)

    4) Now turn the elastic waistband inside out and, still using the seam ripper, carefully pick out the stitching around the tag that gives the size and the name of the maker. (On some tartan boxer shorts there may be a second tag, which will say something like "Hecho en Mongolia" or some similar phrase, undoubtedly useful if traveling in the country of origin the tartan boxer shorts. This tag should also be removed.) Set all tags side as they may be useful in future DIY projects. Alternatively, they may be used as bullet patches for small-caliber muzzle loading rifles.

    5) Using the BROWN indelible felt-tip marker carefully colour one side of the elastic boxer short waistband brown. Take you time and apply the colour evenly across the entire surface. In order to achieve the desired affect more than one application may be required.

    6) Now, satisfied with the appearance of the BROWN side of the boxer short waistband, turn it inside out, and repeat the process on the other side using the BLACK indelible felt tip marker. Again, be sure to take your time and apply the colour evenly over the entire surface of the boxer short waistband. (This side of the waistband should be white, or perhaps a tannish, greyish-brown). Be careful NOT to apply the BLACK colouring to the BROWN side of the waistband, or it may be necessary to obtain a second pair of tartan boxer shorts (which could be done when returning the first pair to the store where you bought them) and start over.

    7) When you have achieved the desired effect with the BLACK indelible felt-tip marker, you are ready to use the two (2) rubber bands to attach your almost infinitely adjustable, reversible, buckle free, sporran strap to you sporran. Each rubber band should be looped around the waistband of the boxer shorts-- sorry, they should be loped around the SPORRAN STRAP, and then stretched to their limit and carefully slipped OVER the sporran, being sure to take care that they do not become crossed over one another in the process.

    8) Once the sporran is secured to the almost infinitely adjustable, reversible, and buckle-free, sporran strap, the strap may be slipped over your head and shoulders, pushed past the chest, and tugged over the tummy until it is in the right place to accommodate the placement of the sporran the desired distance from the belt buckle.

NOTE: Care should be taken to see that the "Almost, etc. sporran belt" matches the colour of your shoes. If it does not, a simple "twist" of the belt will expose the desired colour, which is much easier than changing your shoes.

I only wear a strap, not a chain. Being left-handed, I have the buckle on the right.

For dress, I have a chain made from dog-choker chains, with a snap on each end, and a small ring in centre back.

To the Wizard of BC please send the kilt police around to me too, I could use a bit of solitude right now.
