Oh, you've ruined it for me - I so hoped that was what he looked like, all the time.

Great photos, Alex, and they seem to have started a bit of a stooshie. Anyway I always thought these Lord Lyons, you know, heraldic types, went around in fancy gold tabards and all those ridiculous accoutrements whereas he looks to be a perfectly normal-looking nice sort of guy. You live and learn.

The trouble is Phil, is that the longer you live, the more there is to learn!

Lord Lyon is one of 'The Great Officers of State'. He has just emerged from a complicated court case with various Scottish Barons, the ramifications of which are still being debated throughout the heraldic world. As part of the Royal household and Her Majesty's representative he cannot be seen to favour one district over another. I suppose he might have got away with a discrete sprig of 'clan plant' in his lapel - but not anything more than that.
Mores the pity.
The other thing is; he might not be a kilt wearer at all! There doesn't seem to be a Sellars tartan. The closest is Sellers for the Sillars family, but they aren't his family.
Regards
Chas
