Birmingham, AL KILT NIGHT!
A new Tilted Kilt is opening August 17th, 2009 on Hwy. 280 in Birmingham, AL.
Thought a kilt night would be appropriate.
All those in favor, say Aye! ith:

I'm surprised that there are not any wee kilties in Birmingham
Maybe next time, Aye.

When did you move to B'ham? Is this in relation to your music? I don't recall us having any members in B'ham. There may be one in Tuscaloosa, if I remember correctly. Are you in the 'Ham or one of the suburbs? I had a job that required me to travel there frequently, so I became familiar with the area.

I'm about an hour north of B'ham but hardly ever go there. I think there were 1 or 2 kiltes from down that way that posted on here at one time, but if they have a TK I need to check it out.

Thanks for replying! Yes, the move is in relation to my music. Moving in a different direction than the 'Nashville model', which left much to be desired, if not all of it. Sorry we never got a wee chance to hang. But now that I am in Birmingham, I have actually found a greater culture of thriving Scots (than in Nashville) via the Alabama Caledonian Society. However, have not been able to establish contact as of yet.
Actually bumped into a kiltie in Walmart, as well as a Scottish woman behind the sales desk. I grew up in the hills of Alabama, so am enjoying the experience of being back home.
Aye, Beowulf, have to make a wee trip South for some good 'Craic'. I actually saw a depiction of my Ancestor 'Shaw of Tordorrach' hanging on the wall of the pub. So, aside from all the bonnie lasses, the place is stock full of amazing Scottish memorabilia. We'll see if they can fool this 'old schooler' as being more than just a sports pub with a nice pair of legs. ith:

I don't know much about the music scene here except that it usually takes a long time to get noticed. And I'm sure luck plays a huge part. Alex Beaton moved to Franklin a year or two ago. But then he is already established in his genre. I hope the move turns out to be positive for your music. I had an opportunity to move there years back, but decided Alabama was not the state for me. Sorry, nothing personal, I just couldn't do it. When I would visit, everyone would tell me "Have you been to the Galaria? Oh... You have to go."
Then I learned that it's a mall. They do have a nice zoo. And who could not forget the "moon over Homewood" statue of Vulcan.
What area is the Tilted Kilt in? Is it Hoover?

A day above ground is always grand!
You'll have to let us know their opening goes. I can't say if I will have a chance to come down for a visit to the TK. I no longer have occupational reasons to be there. But if I ever get a chance to come down, I'll let you know.
