Two more young kilties in the making!
My wife and I took our youngest (12 yo) for a day watching street entertainment on the Royal Mile this afternoon. We live about 100 miles south of the capital so it's an easy day trip..
He, Kris, has worn kilts from being small but never in front of his school classmates. What a proud dad I was, then, when asked by him if two of his buddies could come with us on our day out and, more's the point, he told me up front that he'd be wearing his kilt!
His two classmates were fascinated by him swishing up and down the cobbled streets and closes and, by the end of the day, they, too, wanted to get their parents to get them kilts for the next trip!
Now, the friend's, two brothers, surname is Hudspith which is an English surname prominent in the English north east, though with a fair few examples to be found in the Scottish Border region. They both tell me they're sure they have Scots ancestors and, when dropping them back home, we left them to do a bit of research on that front so that they can find an appropriate tartan. If all else fails, something generic will do or, maybe, I could cordially invite them to join the Fraser clan, so long as they swear allegiance to Mac Shimidh!
So, all in all, a good day's recruitin' by young Kris! Oh, and btw, the reaction off young lassies in Edinburgh to his kilt sorta went a long way to winning the guys over!

Ah the Lassies, they are the reason for kilts—well, some of the reason!

My wives favorite memories of our trip to Scotland was eating Fish N Chips on the steps of a close on the Royal Mile Sounds like many others have fantastic memories there as well. Good job converting the lads!

Good to see that the future of kilting is safe up in Northumberland.

For a 12yo to WANT to wear his kilt in front of his peers (they're tough, rugby players from the same team) was quite amazing. I was sure when he came up to me that he was going to ask if he could be let off wearing it this time!
Mind, in his own inimitable way, he made a fashion statement by wearing a leather jacket and a trilby to top everything off! As it's a dark-coloured Hunting Fraser tartan it just about worked, especially according to his young, female admirers in the capital!
C'est la vie!
