    Tartan Confirmation

    so I was looking around for fabric and was trying to confirm that this is royal stewart

    Its listed at fabric.com as a medium weight wool fabric for 12.98 a yard. This would be a great option for my first home made Kilt. that is if it is actually a Stewart tartan.

    It looks like Royal Stewart. But I doubt that the material is suitable for making a kilt. What a fabric store calls medium weight may not be what a kiltmaker calls medium. That crease in the photo and the way the vertical stripes look a bit stretched makes me think this material is very light weight. It is also likely a plain weave instead of a twill weave. That was my first impression of it. You would be well served to order a swatch first.

    I would agree with HeathBar, the fabric for mine came from the Fraser Kirkbright remnants page.
