Several years ago, an Italian woman bore two sons who were identical twins. However she and her husband were so terribly poor that they had to give them up for adoption. One of them was adopted by a childless wealthy Egyptian couple from Cairo who named him Amahl. The other was adopted by a successful Spanish shopkeeper in Valencia. He was named Juan.

She missed them almost immediately and badgered her husband to scrape enough money together for her to visit them. After several years they finally managed to save up enough money for her to visit one of them, her son Juan in Valencia. After a week-long visit to Spain where she was joyfully reunited with her son, she returned to Italy. No sooner had she gotten back and she began to pester, nag, and bother her husband about how she had to see her other son, the one in Egypt, Amahl. After several days of this, her husband, in desperation exclaimed to her: “Why? Why must you go to Egypt to see your other son? Don’t you remember, they’re identical twins?








Once you’ve seen Juan, you’ve seen Amahl!!”
