I think a cross between a kilt and pteruges, both box pleat and knife pleat style, would be pretty cool; the pteruges attached to a somewhat pleated and softer fabbric underneath, of course.
A couple of people, who don't know anything about kilts, have told me that the UK looks like a "Roman kilt," and I think they are talking about the narrow aprons of the UK somehow looking like the Roman skirt armor. Just a thought.
