Nervous about wearing a kilt in public?
Ok. I've got the cure...
Saturday, my wife and I were going to go to an SCA activity (medieval re-enactment and study group). I was to pick her up at her work where she would change and go from there. Well...she found out that she needed some lace for her bodice and would I go across the street to JoAnns (fabric store) to buy it?
Well if going into JoAnns on a Saturday sale day morning with craft classes in full swing, in a period kilt with all the extras...if that doesnt' cure you of your shyness nothing will!!!!
And by the way, no one said a word except for one lady who asked me my clan
It don't mean a thing, if you aint got that swing!!

My wife was once caught short and I ended up buying tampons in a supermarket and got a round of applause on THAT aisle!
Confidence, man, kilts give you confidence! Grrrr! ![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Here's my 'cure' for kilted shyness...
Get dressed up--know that you look great. Head off to the nearest and best flower shop. Buy a dozen roses (or your partner's favorite flowers) Tell the people at the flower shop who they are for. You'll get tons of good feedback ;-)
Then... (if you drink/go to pubs/bars) Take the flowers into the pub...walk up to the bar, order your medicine...enjoy it. Chances are you'll be asked about the flowers and the kilt. If you can wear a kilt and carry flowers into a pub (and handle any chit-chat that insues) you're ready to handle anything.
You get a kilted outing, admiration from women for buying flowers, a good drink at the pub AND your partner gets a fresh buquet of flowers--sounds like a fairly GOOD day, doesn't it?

Maybe it's just me, but I don't understand why anyone would be shy about wearing a kilt in public in the first place.

I was a bit shy my first time in the kilt, but it passed quickly, and I've never looked back. It's really not that difficult with a positive attitude. You can do it.

I noticed that I get less comments and glances when I where my great kilt than I do when I where my tank.

Agreed I once walked from Euston Station to Kings Cross station (London) in a kilt no worries. Near causes several crashes mind you.
All you have to remember is its what you want that counts and the rest can

I agree with CatDad! Why be shy? When I put on me kilt I feel I'm the best look'in fella in the crowd! I've never been one to let others opinions direct me feelings!
