I think it's wierd (but good wierd) that in a company of several thousand - and in a building of more than six hundred - not only is my kilting encouraged, but several colleagues and managers above me all love it.
By contrast, in a previous place of employment, the headcount was something like 120, and I was asked by HR (who was a good friend at the time) not to wear it again. Then again, that previous company had a lot of programmers of certain ethnicities who would be more likely to be confused rather than amused by a kilt.

I wonder what would happen if their expression of ethnic pride were infringed upon. That was all I had to say at my place of employment- Jews are allowed to wear their... stuff (and I say it that way because I don't what that stuff us called and am feeling too lazy to look it up!), so are Mexicans, African- Americans and so forth. I just want the same right. And that was the end of it. I was asked to dress business casual with it, which I do anyway, but that ended it all right there. Oh, and our HR lady thinks it's hot...
