Half Argyll/diced hose
Hi guys. I remember looking at some hose that were argyll at the top fold and one plain colour for the rest of the sock. I believe that they were called "half argyll hose" and they're not half hose or anything.
Here's McMurdo in a pair:

I was wodering if anyone knows where to get them and how much they would be?
I think they were £70 or so when I saw them from a freelance hose-knitter who had a good variety of styles.

I believe that half hose are the ones like a leg warmer and end at the top of the ankle. Having no foot section. Like those worn by many army regiments.
Those look like country socks in the photo try scotweb they will have some not sure of the price.

They are kilt hose not country socks, mine are from The House of Cheviot, Hawick Hose Company and can be found at many vendors. Here are the Argyll top hose that I've got. I got them all at Redshanks Scotland.

Thanks for the info McMurdo. They don't seem to have anything on their website about these hose though.
Do you remember how much you paid for them?

It was a special promotion from them at the time, Redshanks (Chris) let us in on it a while ago on another forum. I do know the House of Cheviot does not sell to the public, however I would think that if you go to a local tartan shop you may be able to find them. I can not remember exactly what I paid for them.

Yes, I do sell Argyll tops. (Thanks for the plug, Big Mikey!) I also offer a 10% discount to XMarks members. It's too bad you didn't get some last month as I had a sale which offered a free pair of garters with every HoC pair of hose purchased.

Skye Highland Outfitters, run by our own NorCalPiper (Josh) himself, has custom made ones with your tartan and whatever color main body color available made to order special for about $130US here:

I have two pair of the Hawick House of Cheviot but they have limited body colors and tartans---basically the Scotts--hunting, royal, black... They are good hose but may be difficult to match with your tartan. I got mine on clearance at a Royal Mile store last year when I visited Edinburgh.
