Phil, I have been wearing a kilt since 1957.

I had never heard of anything but a traditional knife pleated kilt till I came to the USA a few years ago.

There is no doubt that the 4yd box pleated kilt is an ancient kilt that has been revived here in the US, and is probably an ideal kilt for non Scots who have Scottish ancestry as there ancesters may well have worn such a kilt.

However, it seems to me that what is worn as Scottish national dress is decided by the indigenous people of Scotland. So it would seem that while the box pleated kilt and great kilt are ancient Scottish kilts, they are not part of Scottish national dress.

I have just made myself a 4yd box pleated kilt and it is VERY comfortable!!! You guys in Scotland should try them.

And Mat, no matter where you live in the US, ie. it doesn't matter what accent you have, the English you speak is very different than we speak in the UK.

As Sir Winston Chuchill said,"We are two countries separated by a common language."

    Peter
