Robert, I suspect this is a one-off grant. If so and if your purpose is to gain the widest recognition for Lady Chrystel's work and the largest opportunity for sales, then there may be two things to consider: the attendance figures from past games, and the average number of vendors. My guess is that your biggest market is not England & Scotland & Wales. Nor is it Australia, New Zealand or Canada. If it really is the US then that's where you should focus your research.

If you decided to come all the way out to the West Coast of the USA, the obvious choice is the Pleasanton Games, which is the first weekend in September. Total attendance is something like 20,000 - 25,000 people over the weekend.

But is this the BEST single Games in the USA to attend? That's a tough question. Grandfather Mountain and Stone Mountain would be tough to beat.

I haven't experienced enough games to know which is best, but selfishly, I hope you choose Grandfather Mountain because it would be great to meet you both, and see those beautiful kilts first hand.

Robert, that is exciting news! From what I am told Grandfather is the largest ‘Highland Games” this side of the pond. This website states the attendance in 2008 was 30,000. You would also be fairly close to Franklin NC the home the Scottish Tartans Museum. It is a however in a remote area. Whereas, Stone Mountain Highland Games would put you nearer a larger metropolitan area, Atlanta. So where is the largest population of kilt wears in the US? Look forward to the possibility of seeing you guys this side of the pond. What an exciting undertaking you are embarking upon!

Excellent news! Guess that means I'll have to start attending the occasional Highland Game so I can meet you and the lovely Lady Chrystel.

Well, if it's sheer number of attendees you're looking for, the North Texas Scottish Festival in Arlington should be a contender. It apparently gets somewhere in the neighborhood of 50,000 attendees per year.

Thank you all for your advices and recommendations.

Outside the Highland Games proper, it could be another kind of event or gathering.

I’m thinking of an Xmarkers get together !

Hello Robert, an Xmarks get together? Let's go for it! Er, well, OK, in Scotland! Think of all those people that now want to visit Scotland after all the positive feedback from those who went to the homecoming, wonderful pictures ansd stories of Scotland from those that visited here, just this year. In no small way I am rather proud of the compliments paid to my country.

Of course if you want to "hit" as many people as you can with your one shot, then the USA is your number one target.

I am not at all sure that Scotland would be your best choice(sadly) for two reasons. Firstly, I am not sure that people go, in enough volume, to highland shows and secondly the Scots have, in general, a very firm idea what a kilt is and they probably already own it and they don't need another one!

There are any number of highland games in Scotland for you to choose from and going on three, amongst so many, that are the " ones to be seen at" would be The Braemar games, Glamis Castle games, and Blair Atholl games. As I say there are hundreds of others to choose from, but you have three important ones to start with.

Robert - I think you might want the Harpenden Games for one near London.

Hamish should be able to give you details on that.
