True, the sit ups won't get rid of the fat, but they will tighten up the muscles behind that fat. And that will often result in a reduction in your waist measurement. All I can say is, it does it for me a couple of times a year.

Yes, they're called extenders (or more commonly, "fat straps"). Used to hold your vest closed, over paunch and jacket (mine are only because of the jacket, thanks!)...
