If Caswell is closed, I'm 99 percent sure that the MPOSD hike in camp is still open.
http://www.openspace.org/activities/...or_campers.asp
It's a 1.5 mile hike in, and a pretty steep climb so you won't be toting coolers!
You also have some options in San Mateo County Parks... Sam MacDonald and Huddart Park, come to mind. Both of those are drive-ins.

I don't believe they've announced a closure list yet and that seems to be on hold for the nonce.
Scooby and I will also be arriving Saturday morning(I have to work until 7 or 8 Friday evening). I doubt we're as ambitious as Panache's clan, We'll be doing well to leave the house by 8am.

Hi All,
Here's part of the press release from Thursday, which I got on my parks e-mail:
To avoid full and complete park closures while achieving the budgeted savings, the Administration can take the following actions:
In the current fiscal year, Parks can achieve one-time budget savings in the following manner:
o Maintenance and Equipment: Reduce ongoing maintenance for the remainder of 2009-10 and eliminate all major equipment purchases, such as vehicle replacements. (Savings estimated at $12.1 million)
o Service Reductions: Reducing hours and/or days of operation at most State Park units, reducing expenditures on seasonal staff, reducing staffing and operations at Headquarters (Savings estimated at $2.1 million). Examples of service reductions include; (1) some facilities will close weekdays and be open on weekends and holidays, (2) portions of a unit may be closed, such as the back loop of a campground, (3) for a park with multiple campgrounds, one whole campground or day use facility may be closed while the rest of the park remains open, and (4) parks that already close due to seasonal conditions may see a longer closure. Service reductions will be planned to minimize disruptions to visitors, achieve cost savings and maintain park fee revenues.
As far as I know, Caswell will be open and we're on for next weekend. I've got a list of attendees, so keep me posted if your plans have changed.

Ok, as to questions other than will the park be open...
It'll be around $10- $15- per person. I'll have to check the final head count, but I think that's about right. The reservation cost $227.50 and I think we have about 20 people.
Doughnuts, yes.
Potluck for Saturday night, I'm probably going to bring a vat of chili. Bring whatever you like, 'cause that's what a potluck is.
Everyone bring a poem, song, or story to read and we'll go around and take turns. This way we can while away the long, moonlit evening.
Mike is armed with a fez and pith helmet. If you wish, do the same. I may bring something ridiculous to wear on my head, since I don't have either.
Hunting for riparian brush rabbit is strictly prohibited.
It sounds like fishing is a possibility. On a recent trip Farlander discovered that it's possible to get a 2 day fishing permit.
If anyone needs help with camping gear or advice, please let me know.
Farlander and I will be at the BBQ tomorrow, probably on the early side. I need to leave by sundown. Let's chat there about next weekend.

I just checked the weather forecast and it looks like highs in the 80s and lows in the 50s. Just what I ordered!
I can't wait!

Some folks have dropped out of the camping plans. We need 9 campers to have the group site, and we're down to six for Friday night. If you'd like to go and haven't told me yet, tell me now. If you're coming and can think of friends or family who might like to join us, invite them.
Otherwise we'll just play cute on Friday night and pretend we're waiting for folks who are coming in late.

There will be either three or four of us coming up Friday night. I gander we'll be there around eight. Will that make the nine needed?
I just love putting up a tent in the dark!
See you there!
