tsunami - Samoa
There have been reports of a few deaths, sounds like more damage than death so far...thankfully...
A powerful earthquake has struck near the Samoa islands, sparking a tsunami warning for New Zealand.
The Ministry of Civil Defence said the quake, measuring 8.3 on the Richter scale struck at 06.48am New Zealand time.
Newstalk ZB reported that a three metre wave had hit Samoa's coast.

Right. The story's just now hitting the news outlets here.
Hope your early warning systems are up to speed for any future occurrences.

My parents are doing their darndest to try to scare us out of our move to New Zealand (uncontrollable events have pushed it back, but hopefully we'll be out of here by May)
The earthquake off the coast of the South Island and resulting wave from a little while back and this tsunami are their latest ammo....
Imagine their dismay when I told them that the waves weren't much taller than me if that.

Yeah that was big, and the after shocks lasted a while, but these events are few and far between.

I know....we were going to go in August and then November, but my husband is still an electrical apprentice so he decided it would be easier to find a job if he has his journeyman, and unfortunately there weren't any classes nearby this summer, so he had to enroll in the September class. And it'll be easier to get our Expression of Interest approved. The last one got declined because he's an apprentice.
Besides as long as I don't get so much snow on the porch that I have to dig my way out, I'm fairly ok with that....
They've already pointed out the Ring of Fire and I immediately pointed out the fault right under our house and the volcano in Yellowstone. lol.

Sounds like estimated deaths are close to 200, 4 kiwis and 6 aussies included in the count thus far, also indonesia got hit with a big quake over night...which sparked more tsunami panics...
one of Tonga's northern island got hit and 10 people dead there, poor buggers just had a ferry go down with 86 people now this...oh well
