I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right section, but thought I'd share a (mostly) great experience I had last night.
As part of the NY Musical Theatre Festival, I saw a production of a Scottish-themed musical called "Marrying Meg: A Comic Tale of I Do or Die." It's based on "The Lass wi the Muckle Mou," written by the Scottish writer Alexander Reid in 1950 and takes place on the Scottish Borders around A.D. 1600.
Having never attended a theater festival before, I was unprepared for the professional level of theater and acting. Though the storyline was a bit creaky (think "Romeo and Juliet" meets "Twelfth Night") the acting and singing were first rate and the music was very entertaining.
Of course I went kilted for the event. There was a reception held after the performance at New York's only Scottish restaurant, sponsored by the St. Andrew's Society and Clan Currie. I got to meet the whole cast there, and they all expressed their appreciation of my having come kilted.
The only negative element to the evening for me was that I lost my monthy transit card during the evening. Sporrans!!!![]()
