    >Funny I would think if your going to an area where its known for knife crime you would want to be sure to, at least, have a knife too<

Ummm... the concept of "have a weapon to defend yourself against others with weapons" smells of logic. Therefore, it is verboten to the mind of a politician.

And honestly, a sgian would NOT be my first choice for defending myself. Point of fact, it's WAY down the list...

In the UK we have a blade limit of 3 inches, mine was 3 ¼ long and as I didn't want any trouble with some smart **** copper so I glued the blade to the sheath, it was only a cheap one so nothing lost

    A 1/4 inch? Grinders work, too... ;)

I almost wish we had a unified set of rules here in the States. I've been to some places where, so long as it folded in half, a blade was legal to conceal (same place: single edged fixed blade was legal openly carried): length was unimportant. I've also seen places where ANY blade was considered a weapon (guy got busted for having a skinning knife on his belt during hunting season)...

    Sgian Dubh

I was intrigued by this thread, and so I trawled down the RRS regulations. I noticed that flashes are worn with the front edge in line with the centre of the shin bone. I have always worn mine slightly "forward" but the regulations are very precise.

So I have decided that that is how I will wear my flashes in future. Perhaps others will follows........

    Aye well

If anybody wants to take my sgian off me, they are welcome to try - they will need a scalpel though, or I suppose, their very own, very sharp sgian....

As far as carrying goes i'm sure it's the same in the UK as it is here in the states...even though it is legal to carry in public, businesses such as pubs etc. can have there own policy about letting you carry them in or not.

To my understanding - it's nothing to do with the UK government... it was the chief of the RSR who approves guidelines and rules of dress.

It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

I noticed that too. I may give it a go. It is much further forward than I normally wear flashes.

Sgians dubh never have been weapons. They are just fancy versions of utilitarian gralloch (gutting/skinning) knives....
