Dumfries Fling
Well folks, its only eight more weeks till the end of Homecoming Scotland 2009 on St. Andrews Day 30th November and we need to start planning something to mark the occasion.
I see that Dumfries is hosting a major festival as they did at the start of the year of Homecoming with the Burns 250 events. The theme for 27th to 30th November is music and dance, with live performances by a variety of styles of Scottish musicians including The Red Hot Chilli Pipers..
and also the world's largest ever Scottish reel with dancers filling the pedestrianised High Street.

Now is the time we should be making plans.
Who is all in for another kilted invasion of Dumfries from Friday 27th to Monday 30th November?
Regional Director for Scotland for Clan Cunningham International, and a Scottish Armiger.

Alas I am returning from Cornwall on the Friday in a coach party so no way could I make it in time.

Alex,
Sounds like it would be a grand way to close out the year, especially since I was there at the beginning.
Unfortunately, I will be in the midst of a move during that period, from Grafenwoehr to Garmisch, Germany, and my wife would not take kindly to my absence during that period.
It may just be possible that I can get over for Burn's weekend in January at Ferintosh House. Perhaps I see you and some of the folks then.

I too would love to be there, Alex, and it might just be possible but it may be at the expense of my attending the Ferintosh Burns Weekend in January - unless the credit crunch is over by then!! Please keep us posted.
Take care,
Ham.

Sounds like fun!
I was hoping to head to the Highlands around that time but it seems I'll make it upto Oban in a few weeks - so I'm probably going to this now! It's good that it's on a full weekend too!
I'll see what I can do as far as booking a hotel or guesthouse. Any you could recommend?
It is in truth not for glory, nor riches, nor honours that we are fighting, but for freedom -- for that alone, which no honest man gives up but with life itself.

I might just try to go south to Dumfries from here in Northumberland!
One of our members owns a B&B there:

See you there!

It's the ONLY place to stay in Dumfries, trust me.
And yes, there is an XMarks discount. I've been to three Burns Supper weekends there and we stayed for a week during a two week vacation in 2007.
You will find no better hosts than Robertson (Pour1Malt on XMarks) and Emma and Ferintosh is charming and directly across the street from the rail station.
Book it!

Sounds perfect. I'm sure I wont have too much uni work to do over the weekend and I'm sure I can do an extra few hours a week in work to afford it.
I'll get in touch with Robertson. I never knew he owned a guesthouse - but he stood out to me on here cause he types in Scots!
