Marmite....GACK!!!

Well i can't let this chatter go on much longer without singing the praise for Vegemite.
I grew up on the stuff, cheese and vegemite sandwiches, vegemite on toast, vegemite off a spoon, got to love eating a by product from the brewing process of one of our best beers in South Australia. Coopers beers are home grown and home brewed. Some of the yeast comes from the coopers brewery.
Have Vegemite on toast with a cold Coopers Pale ale, now that is heaven right there.
It might not be to everyones liking, but either is peanut butter and JAM......

So here we go again - the great, everlasting Australia/New Zealand debate - Is Marmite better than Vegemite? I grew up on New Zealand Marmite - not quite the same as the UK product. See this Wikipedia article for the difference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marmite

I ordered some Sanatarium Marmite off of ebay. I don't like salt with a lot of things, but there are a couple things that I like a lot of salt with (Pork roasts, tomatoes, and I've always thought grilled cheese sandwiches were missing something so we'll see if marmite is it)

I guess when we finally get all our paperwork through and get moved to New Zealand, we'll know whether or not we like the local stuff and if we don't we can gag in private instead of in front of an audience. lol

Het thanks BEEDEE for that wikipedia link, very interesting reading about marmite, vegemite and the almost forgotten Promite. Never tried NZ Marmite, might ave to get a jar and give it a go. My daughters love vegemite sandwiches but alas my son hates the stuff. Still love the cheesymite scroles from one of the local bakers here.Cheese and vegemite in a bread scroll, great breakfast food.

As an Aussie, I grew up with both Vegemite & Marmite. (Marmite is a bit runnier than Vegemite). One of my lady parishioners was in my apartment (An African American with a beautiful singing voice) when the Vegemite arrived. Of course I offered her some on toast - Well; She took a bite, then let out a full blast bellow, and began yelling something about "being violated!" "Lord have Mercy!" etc.(Heavens knows what the neighbors thought!) So by this I discovered that not everyone loves Vegemite!

I also like it on buttered toast, with Peanut Butter. Yum! Marmite I'll eat, but only if there is no Vegemite. A spoonful in hot water makes a nice soup (a bit like Bullion).
But, of course it breaks down to what you're used to, I guess.
