I've just found a pic my co-driver took of me whilst we were enroute to the Nurburgring in Germany in June 2008. (Please excuse my pasty white legs!)

I hear what you are saying Stilletto. To my mind, it doesn't matter what the bag originally was, if you use it as a sporran - it is a sporran. I know someone that uses a very expensive leather camera case as a sporran and it works.
I hadn't noticed your legs till you mentioned it - now I can't think of anything else.
